There's a documentary on YouTube called 'Making of Murray Street' split in to 3 parts.
Guitarist Jim O'Rourke fully joins the band. Sonic Youth sound more comfortable on this album, almost hear thick pile carpet and coffee-cup holders. Not as concentration intense. Guitars are as weird and wonderful, but more refined and generally cleaner than usual. Only seven songs, but three of them around ten minutes. Despite increased comfort factor, it's chaos as well. But even the chaos is structured to the guitar and drum led ambience than usual. There are moments, like in Radical Adults that aren't far off Dirty. Plastic Sun, you don't often wait this long to hear Kim sing. This album runs perfectly, it just happens that Kim's songs all fall towards the end. Thurston's pronunciation of 'notice' in Disconnection Notice is a lot like the Steve Coogan comedy character Duncan Thickett 'Have you ever noo-ticed'. First song last, The Empty Page is a classic. Murray Street is mellow, but they're versatile and good enough song writers to do pretty much what they want. Enjoy the live footage below.
