Below the review are YouTube videos of all Green Mind songs (live versions where possible) by Dinosaur Jr at various concerts.
J is one of the best rock singers, The Wagon, no-one could sing it better, a power-pop rock anthem won't survive without a brilliant voice. If The Wagon doesn't convince, then Puke and Cry. J and Lou are great singers, exactly what kind of vocal each song, each part of each song needs (their first album, the best example). Puke and Cry would sound hum-drum with most singers. If it wasn't for the vocal, especially the breaks. J's softer, stark vocals of Dinosaur Jr's ballads, like Without A Sound probably has better examples.
You would suspect Green Mind was Dinosaur Jr's first major label album. More anthem feel to a lot of the songs, but if you can write anthemic chorus's as good as in the first song (The Wagon) and the last song (Green Mind), you should. The change from earlier albums sounds natural to me, not like a sell-out. Another album where J appears to have played enough of the music for it to be considered a solo release. Enjoy the videos below from this album.
