Stuckism is a contemporary art group founded in London, UK 1999, promoting figurative painting, and speaks strongly against much contemporary art, in particular conceptual art. The main Stuckist manifesto written by the goups founders Charles Thomson and Billy Childish (who in 2001 left the Stuckists) champions painting, and criticises Postmodernism. See also Remodernism, a later manifesto the Stuckists wrote proposing Remodernism, to replace Postmodernism.
Stuckism has since inspired hundreds artists across the world to start their own Stuckism groups. The most prominent exhibition to date (2011) of Stuckism work was at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool in 2004.
Stuckism is also known for its demonstrations, particularly against the Turner Prize. An annual contemporary art prize held at Tate Britain, the UK's major national gallery of British art. The Turner Prize typically selects contemporary art work Stuckism opposes.
